Flight of Maximus

by Ethan Platt

Medium-Advanced Marimba Solo

Instrumentation:

• Marimba — low A

Flight of Maximus by Ethan Platt is a medium-advanced two-mallet marimba solo inspired by the virtuosity of Baroque and Classical era composers (such as Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven) and captures the excitement of an exhilarating chase.

Speed and hand independence are at the heart of the piece’s technical challenge. Rather than relying exclusively on alternating strokes, the performer is frequently asked to sustain a melodic line with one hand while the other supplies the accompanying harmony. Rapid passages, frequent meter changes, and movement across the instrument keep the music in near-constant motion, giving advanced mallet players an opportunity to develop speed, coordination, and independence while delivering a spirited, virtuosic performance.

This piece ships as a fully bound score.
