All Hearts and Minds Be Clear by Clif Walker is an advanced percussion ensemble work for 15 players that explores the contrast between tension and tranquility: brief pauses for reflection gradually expand into longer periods of calm, repeatedly interrupted by bursts of tension as the music searches for clarity.
A vast instrumental palette gives the work its distinctive sonic character. Mallet percussion combines with drums, metals, and an extensive assortment of auxiliary instruments, while bowed sounds, muted effects, and scrapes add further layers of color. The result is an ever-changing soundscape in which dense rhythmic activity and explosive gestures give way to spacious, resonant textures.
Commissioned by Dr. Brian West and the Texas Christian University Percussion Orchestra for their 2022 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) performance in Indianapolis, Indiana. All Hearts and Minds Be Clear offers advanced percussion ensembles a substantial and immersive concert experience.
