Pocket Change

Medium-Advanced Snare Drum Solo with Kick Drum & Coins

Instrumentation:

• Concert snare drum
• Kick drum
• Ashtray
• 8-10 Coins

Pocket Change by Anabel Perez-Brennan is a medium-advanced snare drum solo inspired by Nate Smith’s album of the same name that combines syncopated, drumset-inspired grooves with the sounds created by coins on the drumhead.

The setup complements the traditional snare drum with a kick drum, ashtray, coin scrapes, buzzes, and slaps to create a wide range of timbres. As the piece develops, its unconventional sound world intersects with increasingly involved rhythmic interplay between the snare and kick drum. Pocket Change offers percussionists a distinctive solo showcase that pairs rhythmic control with experimentation and theatrical flair.
