Santa Fe

by Larry Lawless

Medium Marimba Solo

Instrumentation:

• Marimba — low A

Santa Fe by Larry Lawless is a medium-level marimba solo written for the developing four-mallet player. The third installment in a series that includes Escape and Caravan, the piece serves as a bridge to more advanced repertoire by reinforcing single independent strokes and introducing double lateral strokes in an approachable musical setting.

Playable on a low A marimba, Santa Fe draws inspiration from the beauty of the New Mexico landscape. The work is built around major seventh harmonies and features a flowing melody supported by syncopated accompaniment patterns. A recurring use of ghost notes in the accompaniment helps performers develop rhythmic feel while maintaining a light, supportive texture.

This piece ships as a fully bound score.
